    Friday
    Cairo / Memphis / Sakkara / Pyramids & Sphinx

This morning we drive to Memphis to see The Colossus of Ramses and alabaster Sphinx. When Memphis was the capital of Ancient Egypt, Saqqara served as its necropolis. There we’ll see a burial complex that goes back more than 3,000 years. The step pyramid at Saqqara was designed by Imhotep for King Djoser (c.2667-2648 BC). It is the oldest complete hewn-stone building complex known in history. We also visit the newly opened Imhotep Museum before our lunch break.

This afternoon we go to the Giza Plateau to explore the area around the ancient Pyramids, one of the wonders of the ancient world. We even enjoy a camel ride and see the Sphinx up close and personal. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

  • 4
    Egyptian Museum
    Saturday
Cairo / Museum / St. Sergius / Old Cairo / Amman

This morning we visit the Egyptian Museum with its priceless gems including the tomb of Tutankhamen and other world-famous relics. We visit the Nile and take a felucca ride before our lunch break.

This afternoon we tour Old Cairo, including the principal Coptic church in Cairo, Abu Serga (St. Sergius). The crypt dates from the 6th century and is the traditional site where Joseph, Mary and the Christ child rested on their flight into Egypt. We tour Old Cairo, including the Coptic church of “Al-Mu’allaqah”, dating from the early fourth century and the Mohamed Ali Mosque. We go to the airport for our short flight to Amman. Upon arrival we are met and taken to our hotel for dinner.

  • 5
    Petra
    Sunday
    Amman / Petra

This morning we drive to Petra. Today we spend time in one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Start the tour of Petra; we are in the heart of the rose red Seir mountains as mentioned in the Biblical Book of Genesis. This mountain range houses the Aaron Peak, which is the highest locality in Petra and the burial place of Aaron brother of Moses. A walk down through the narrow ‘Siq’ passage, being the main entrance to Petra, along 1250 meters brings you to the first monument Treasure (the same as the one seen in the Indiana Jones movie). A walk further down through the outer ‘Siq’ encompassed by tombs and burial chambers brings us to one of the largest theaters in Jordan. This theater is carved into the sand stone mountains of Petra at the bottom of the High place of Sacrifice Mountain. Apparently some sacrificial rituals used to take place here. Now, it is time to walk up hill to the Royal Tombs. We have a great view of the lower part of Petra with all its Roman remains. These tombs are: The Urn- Corinthian- Silk- and Palace tombs. We board our motor coach and have a panoramic ride of the outer environs of Petra before heading back to Amman for dinner and overnight.

  • 6

    Tuesday
    Delphi / Athens

This morning in Delphi we visit the museum with the famous Bronze Charioteer and other items that date back to the time of Paul. We visit the Temple of Apollo, where Paul must have spoken to the people about the Living God, continue to the Theater, the Athenian Treasury and the Castalian Spring. We then follow Paul’s ministry south as we travel on the national highway through famous Thebes, Levadia and the village of Arachova. Continue to the hotel in Athens where we check in for dinner.

  • 8
    Wednesday
    Athens / Corinth / Nafplio

Today we drive to Corinth to visit the archaeological site where the Apostle Paul worked for 18 months with tentmakers Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:1-18). We also see the handmade Corinth Canal connecting the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea. Next we stop and see the ancient port of Cenchrea, where Paul stopped during his mission to the area. We learn about Isthmus, a trade center where Paul visited to spread the word between the crowds. Next we make our way to the beautiful seaport town of Nafplio, the first capital of Greece and a location rich in Venetian architecture, cobbled squares, and towering castles with commanding views of the Argolic Gulf. Here we view the water castle of Bourtzi and Palamidi Castle (note there are 999 steps to the top of the castle so, time permitting, we may have the option to climb to the top for an impressive view of the gulf). We return to Athens for dinner and overnight.

  • 9
